00:01:39.528 --> 00:01:40.368
MA is the.
00:01:40.418 --> 00:01:46.388

00:01:58.629 --> 00:02:00.399
My welcome to the Wayfinder Show.
00:02:00.853 --> 00:02:02.504
Thanks so much Louis, for having me.
00:02:02.534 --> 00:02:04.603
I'm excited to have this conversation.
00:02:04.903 --> 00:02:06.013
Yeah, likewise.
00:02:06.444 --> 00:02:08.334
Let's start with your origin story.
00:02:08.334 --> 00:02:13.283
What what who is my more wow, that's a big question.
00:02:13.313 --> 00:02:16.313
So I act, I call myself hashtag almost social impact.
00:02:17.484 --> 00:02:20.873
My personal mission is really about awakening and awareness.
00:02:21.093 --> 00:02:25.413
So that it can help people see more clearly, so they can lead properly in this new world.
00:02:25.774 --> 00:02:26.943
And I'm really here.
00:02:26.943 --> 00:02:31.144
My vision is really to create a more equitable, connected and empowered world.
00:02:31.144 --> 00:02:40.183
And you shared some of my background, but it started out as in tech really, I was, involved with two startups that went public, and I did.
00:02:40.243 --> 00:02:42.313
I was in tech for Wow, for over 20 years.
00:02:42.644 --> 00:02:51.343
And then to what you had mentioned, I co-founded a Social impact nonprofit, EYEJ, empowering Youth Exploring Justice, empowering young advocates for change.
00:02:51.704 --> 00:02:56.144
So I had served 2000 underserved youth with the help of 1400 diverse adults.
00:02:56.938 --> 00:03:00.088
How create change from just the idea.
00:03:00.628 --> 00:03:05.489
And after that I really wanted to get back into the national, international space.
00:03:05.549 --> 00:03:06.479
I chief.
00:03:06.913 --> 00:03:16.574
Which is a very large women's executive network of 20,000 women across the United States, and really was paying attention to what was happening.
00:03:16.574 --> 00:03:21.924
This was about three years ago, and that's when all the, great resignation topics came up.
00:03:21.924 --> 00:03:27.209
Pay Gap, DEI, burnout all that, and created actually a coalition.
00:03:27.209 --> 00:03:33.028
We started doing speaker series for young women because I feel like we had set them up for failure, meaning.
00:03:33.354 --> 00:03:43.633
Chiefs are amazing and they have so many stories and experiences to share, but they, many of us, and it doesn't matter, male or female, have been taught, to wear a mask.
00:03:43.633 --> 00:03:46.274
You can't be vulnerable, you can't share your story, things like that.
00:03:46.334 --> 00:03:54.123
And until we are honest and share those experiences with young people they will then be able to plan their life a little bit better.
00:03:54.394 --> 00:03:59.373
And so from that, I was really inspired and created a company called Bossan, which you mentioned.
00:03:59.739 --> 00:04:05.919
Which is really about bridging the intergenerational gap for the future work through connection, inclusivity, and transforming leadership.
00:04:06.248 --> 00:04:09.459
And the real differentiator there is intergenerational leadership.
00:04:09.639 --> 00:04:20.399
And so beyond that, yes, to your point, I do public speaking, like I mentioned, I'm very focused on awakening and awareness right now just because of my reflections on the last 13 years.
00:04:20.829 --> 00:04:25.389
And really how can I help humanity or future of work or culture better?
00:04:27.879 --> 00:04:28.269
Wow.
00:04:28.689 --> 00:04:29.379
There's a lot there.
00:04:31.778 --> 00:04:37.079
I like to let's, I wanna focus on you first before we get into some of those subjects if we could.
00:04:37.439 --> 00:04:37.588
Sure.
00:04:37.639 --> 00:04:38.689
How how do I put this?
00:04:38.689 --> 00:04:39.309
With the.
00:04:39.803 --> 00:04:42.413
Story of, transformational leadership and all of that.
00:04:42.413 --> 00:04:45.963
What was, what got you personally to really think about this, right?
00:04:45.963 --> 00:04:47.343
What, yeah.
00:04:47.343 --> 00:04:48.663
Why even do this work?
00:04:48.944 --> 00:04:51.613
I grew up very multicultural.
00:04:51.663 --> 00:04:54.824
My mother's Japanese I'm half Caucasian.
00:04:54.853 --> 00:04:56.923
My daughter is half Zambian.
00:04:57.644 --> 00:05:00.194
And my mother always brought me around different cultures.
00:05:00.194 --> 00:05:03.014
I grew up in a community in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
00:05:03.283 --> 00:05:04.363
That's very diverse.
00:05:04.363 --> 00:05:13.913
And so when I was growing up, it was really about who you are as a human right versus the color of your skin, your social economic level, what industry, what role you are in.
00:05:13.973 --> 00:05:15.834
And so that's really stuck with me.
00:05:16.314 --> 00:05:19.764
And and then, as I got into the tech industry.
00:05:20.949 --> 00:05:33.009
What a lot of women were facing three years ago with a great resignation and having this desire to find, our purpose or wanting to do something that helps impact society or really listening to the demands of Gen Z.
00:05:33.428 --> 00:05:39.939
That was me when I was in the tech industry and I've always been fast and I'm not saying that's a great thing, but I've always been.
00:05:40.613 --> 00:05:41.934
Visionary and fast.
00:05:41.934 --> 00:05:50.814
And so I had a lot of those experiences being in the tech industry where, for example, you were fighting to get to that one spot as a female or a person of color.
00:05:51.093 --> 00:05:54.723
And then, people would go against each other fighting for that one spot and.
00:05:55.499 --> 00:05:57.119
And just a corporate atmosphere.
00:05:57.119 --> 00:06:10.699
So I had a lot of those experiences, young and obviously I had never thought in a million years I'd be working with young people or start a nonprofit and, the teachings of spending time with these young people and underserved.
00:06:10.699 --> 00:06:13.968
It just boggled my mind'cause I just didn't understand.
00:06:14.389 --> 00:06:21.199
To be in a society where there's 27,000 nonprofits, why are our young people in the state of toxic stress?
00:06:21.449 --> 00:06:24.228
And why is there so many people that are underserved?
00:06:24.228 --> 00:06:28.009
And these kind of different steps had kept growing inside of me.
00:06:28.009 --> 00:06:33.199
And then I had became a chief and like I mentioned, was really paying attention to what was happening in the corporate space.
00:06:33.798 --> 00:06:36.949
And I can't answer everything, but what has.
00:06:37.369 --> 00:06:53.819
What has been inside of me is just seeing these young people, whether through BOSSAN or EYEJ, and how, how young, so many young people are, young leaders at such a young age, and are we really preparing them for the future properly?
00:06:54.119 --> 00:07:01.408
As an example, in five years, 70% of our workforce is gonna be millennials and Gen Z, and have we set them up properly?
00:07:01.459 --> 00:07:02.869
Look at our culture right now.
00:07:03.119 --> 00:07:09.509
Do we have intergenerational leadership embedded into cultures and corporations and workplaces properly?
00:07:09.749 --> 00:07:11.218
And are we being equitable?
00:07:11.278 --> 00:07:17.709
That's always stood with me is the whole justice and equity and humanity standpoint.
00:07:17.709 --> 00:07:20.678
That's always been like this underlying foundation.
00:07:21.444 --> 00:07:22.374
And I care.
00:07:22.374 --> 00:07:31.824
And again, I've been privileged to spend time with so many different kind of people, literally working with billionaires to returning citizens.
00:07:32.153 --> 00:07:40.903
And I just, I feel like leadership is such a important and urgent need for society right now.
00:07:40.934 --> 00:07:43.733
And there are so many people who are.
00:07:44.634 --> 00:07:53.874
Capable of leadership or are leaders who are not empowered properly, and then yet we have leaders in place that are literally ruling.
00:07:54.593 --> 00:07:55.613
Humanity right now.
00:07:55.673 --> 00:07:58.163
And so again, all these things connect.
00:07:58.494 --> 00:08:09.413
And I, like I mentioned, I feel like my calling right now is really about awareness because I have seen how we make decisions or funding decisions or whatever it is, innovation decisions.
00:08:09.834 --> 00:08:15.533
And we think we're making impact, but yet we're actually taking us backwards as humanity.
00:08:15.983 --> 00:08:21.983
And so being more aware, being able to see more clearly will help us make better decisions as leaders.
00:08:22.689 --> 00:08:37.938
Was there did you find that once you left the tech world and started doing it through your nonprofit, that you were empowered to be able to tell a story maybe that you couldn't before because you were bound by the Sure.
00:08:38.399 --> 00:08:39.869
The walls of corporate America?
00:08:40.288 --> 00:08:41.158
Absolutely.
00:08:41.499 --> 00:08:44.649
Being an entrepreneur, there's more freedom there, right?
00:08:44.649 --> 00:08:45.249
And I think there.
00:08:46.744 --> 00:08:56.573
Being to be seen, to be heard, to be valued to be appreciated which we see right now that a lot of people really desire.
00:08:56.793 --> 00:08:58.624
And yeah, that's definitely part of it.
00:08:58.624 --> 00:09:00.874
And I think it was a lot about voice.
00:09:01.203 --> 00:09:12.583
When it's not equitable, the voices, whether we bring people to the table or not, it's still not equitable of how we implement it or who we listen to or how we, how many we communicate things.
00:09:12.583 --> 00:09:17.894
And I think there's a strong desire for many people to get, have their voice heard and be seen.
00:09:18.283 --> 00:09:18.673
Sure.
00:09:19.063 --> 00:09:21.129
Lady, I relate to them honestly.
00:09:21.599 --> 00:09:21.889
Yeah.
00:09:22.418 --> 00:09:24.558
I'm wondering if you can tell us like.
00:09:25.688 --> 00:09:42.489
A personal story you were suddenly able in your speaking engagement or what have you, that you were, you might have been afraid to before in corporate America, that now you were able to, as you became an entrepreneur and and with that sharing of that story, what was your own feeling there and the reaction of others to it?
00:09:43.658 --> 00:09:59.129
Yeah, that's a big question and I think I actually attribute this a lot to entrepreneurship is that and just, going through what I have with these companies and how people are I have many stories I think, be, for example, to your point about speaking.
00:09:59.129 --> 00:10:05.339
When I've done many speaking engagements and, speaking to an audience, that's not exactly the same as me.
00:10:05.668 --> 00:10:15.349
But then, seeing their eyes light up like a light bulb just went off, or, speaking to an audience and having a seventh grade boy run after me and say thank you.
00:10:15.349 --> 00:10:17.778
What seventh grader does that in general, right?
00:10:18.168 --> 00:10:22.278
And so those moments are really what ignite like a few inside of me.
00:10:22.399 --> 00:10:24.678
And like I said, I'm very tied to injustice.
00:10:24.678 --> 00:10:26.778
So EYJ was actually created.
00:10:27.109 --> 00:10:31.009
When the Trayvon Martin ruling had happened and I just, it didn't sit well with me.
00:10:31.009 --> 00:10:35.028
That was really the fire that lit the spark for EYEJ.
00:10:35.428 --> 00:10:50.859
But it's those moments or working with executive women chiefs or Gen Z in the future workspace, just seeing people's passion come alive or the seeing people take action based in a thriving, healthy, happy way.
00:10:51.099 --> 00:10:54.458
That's what really makes me happy and keeps me going.
00:10:55.448 --> 00:10:55.719
Yeah.
00:10:56.739 --> 00:11:01.489
So it, it sounds like you've probably recognized some.
00:11:03.219 --> 00:11:07.589
There, there's systemic barriers here for some of our youth and out that are out there, right?
00:11:07.828 --> 00:11:16.264
And I think you've identified some of those, but and I like what you're doing to try and encourage, empower people to, to create change.
00:11:16.793 --> 00:11:17.514
How is.
00:11:19.344 --> 00:11:24.533
I guess what, are there any actionable steps that you get people to do to do that?
00:11:24.533 --> 00:11:27.864
To start feeling empowered to also create the change?
00:11:27.864 --> 00:11:30.644
Yeah so just to be clear, the systemic barriers are not just.
00:11:31.724 --> 00:11:37.543
It's a certain group of youth, it's pro, it's a majority of young people that are faced with depression.
00:11:37.543 --> 00:11:44.183
And you think about examples of, when a young person has a brilliant idea, they bring it to the table and then we shut them down, or we don't listen to them.
00:11:44.283 --> 00:11:47.764
So to your, to answer your question, that's my job.
00:11:47.823 --> 00:11:50.854
My job is really to get more people involved.
00:11:50.903 --> 00:11:55.854
And as an example, EYJ or boss and, corralling and.
00:11:56.089 --> 00:12:05.149
Really reaching out to diverse community to come to the table to, because I think a majority of society does care about young people.
00:12:05.494 --> 00:12:09.903
And for them to see firsthand or hear their story of what they've been through.
00:12:10.053 --> 00:12:12.244
A lot of people don't realize it.
00:12:12.303 --> 00:12:19.264
I think we have a systemic problem in the United States where a lot of people are very sheltered and comfortable.
00:12:19.313 --> 00:12:21.653
And don't want to.
00:12:22.379 --> 00:12:31.739
Deal with harder scenarios in some situations and don't have to because they're not held accountable and until, and, but at the end of the day, we are humans.
00:12:31.798 --> 00:12:38.149
And when people hear people's stories and see young people step up to the plate, that's inspiring.
00:12:38.328 --> 00:12:42.649
And that educates and reminds us as older leaders like, oh yes.
00:12:42.884 --> 00:12:43.484
I forgot.
00:12:43.484 --> 00:12:47.443
This is our duty to empower the next set generation of leaders.
00:12:47.443 --> 00:12:53.693
And I think sometimes we forget that as older leaders and we have been there ourselves, right?
00:12:53.903 --> 00:13:00.653
And so I know for me personally, like I don't want young people to ever go through the things that I went through.
00:13:00.653 --> 00:13:05.283
And so that's my way of I don't know whether you call it protection or guiding or.
00:13:05.874 --> 00:13:07.714
Again, building awareness.
00:13:08.193 --> 00:13:17.094
But and having conversation and building relationship with community, and again, it's about messaging and showing and demonstrating by leadership.
00:13:17.813 --> 00:13:21.854
These young actions that young, if you look at the Gen Z space right now, so inspirational.
00:13:21.854 --> 00:13:32.894
If you see the amount of Gen Zs that are building businesses and impact oriented, purpose-driven companies and who have desires and passions for helping back community, that's inspiring.
00:13:32.894 --> 00:13:36.063
But people need to see that to some, kids keep us in check.
00:13:36.394 --> 00:13:37.533
Kids are our foundation.
00:13:37.533 --> 00:13:42.734
So sometimes we have to be reminded and the more that can be shared with the world it reminds us.
00:13:43.389 --> 00:13:46.808
Again, back to the basics of humanity, if that makes any sense.
00:13:48.099 --> 00:13:48.879
Yeah, it does.
00:13:49.058 --> 00:13:58.033
So what, alright, as an, as a geezer, what adv advice, like what are the are my blind spots in general and how can I work on them?
00:13:59.203 --> 00:13:59.443
Yeah.
00:13:59.443 --> 00:14:01.063
Louis, I'd have to get to know you more.
00:14:01.063 --> 00:14:01.724
You're a human.
00:14:02.149 --> 00:14:03.318
In general, right?
00:14:03.499 --> 00:14:04.038
Yeah.
00:14:04.068 --> 00:14:07.188
But I think that's a big question, right?
00:14:07.399 --> 00:14:12.448
I think, again, the reminder that our duty is to set up our next generation of leaders.
00:14:12.448 --> 00:14:13.349
Have we done that?
00:14:13.349 --> 00:14:14.308
Have we guided them?
00:14:14.308 --> 00:14:15.208
Have we prepared them?
00:14:15.208 --> 00:14:16.649
Have we given them resources?
00:14:16.958 --> 00:14:19.058
And are we reaching out to our community?
00:14:19.058 --> 00:14:24.609
'cause our community is beyond just our current, what we know of, right?
00:14:24.639 --> 00:14:25.538
When you are.
00:14:27.038 --> 00:14:28.178
Do doing an action.
00:14:28.178 --> 00:14:31.749
It is in fact it is impacting everybody and we are all connected.
00:14:31.999 --> 00:14:41.009
So are you going beyond your comfort zone to reach out to and just an example of speakers or people maybe you mentor or.
00:14:41.229 --> 00:14:51.139
Helping people with resources to help guide them and prepare them for this new world because we do have, again, experience and knowledge and resources.
00:14:51.359 --> 00:14:55.828
But are we communicating and finding out from our community what they need?
00:14:55.828 --> 00:14:58.168
Are we asking them and then providing that back?
00:14:59.548 --> 00:14:59.839
Okay.
00:15:00.203 --> 00:15:01.614
You talk a little bit about.
00:15:02.178 --> 00:15:04.938
You've mentioned the term awake and awareness.
00:15:05.028 --> 00:15:05.869
What exactly does that mean?
00:15:05.943 --> 00:15:10.964
It means that it, what it means is.
00:15:13.678 --> 00:15:19.948
When I say, are we seeing, are, when I ask back, are you, are we seeing clearly immediate responses?
00:15:19.948 --> 00:15:23.739
Probably I can see, I've been, I'm X I'm Generation X.
00:15:23.739 --> 00:15:24.818
I can see just fine.
00:15:25.089 --> 00:15:29.769
But what I mean by that is, are we looking beyond, again, that, that comfort zone?
00:15:29.769 --> 00:15:34.519
Are we looking beyond that the, our immediate kind of.
00:15:34.884 --> 00:15:44.453
Space to really see what's going on, whether it's with politics that are happening now, whether, again, it's young people in our community, maybe it's your neighbor, I don't know, but.
00:15:44.869 --> 00:15:48.798
My point is are we able to see what's really going on and take that in?
00:15:48.849 --> 00:16:02.798
And I, again, I feel like we are in a society right now that there's a level of strength that's needed and we are becoming aware of truths that are in society, but oftentimes we are retracting back.
00:16:03.264 --> 00:16:07.823
Our comfort zone to say, oh, that doesn't impact me, or, I'm not responsible for that.
00:16:07.884 --> 00:16:14.553
Or I'm gonna, okay, thank you for making me aware, but I'm gonna go along with my daily life because I'm privileged.
00:16:14.553 --> 00:16:18.073
Or, that's my, that this is my life and that doesn't impact me.
00:16:18.283 --> 00:16:22.604
When in fact it a hundred percent, that's what we're seeing right now, that it impacts us.
00:16:22.653 --> 00:16:23.224
We are.
00:16:23.443 --> 00:16:24.734
Absolutely connected.
00:16:24.734 --> 00:16:40.024
No matter if you're talking about government, if you're talking about corporations, if you're talking about within your community, yeah, and so again, it's really about if we are able to see more clearly the truth, then we are able to take action.
00:16:40.024 --> 00:16:54.994
As leaders, we're able to make better decisions, we're able to create better products, we're able to innovate better because we're keeping in mind the collective community versus just our comfort zone or within our little bubble, if that makes any sense.
00:16:55.043 --> 00:16:55.193
Yeah.
00:16:55.193 --> 00:17:00.114
What about you, a lot of your work also revolves around breaking cycles, right?
00:17:00.744 --> 00:17:04.624
Are you talking about like intergenerational cycles or what exactly does that mean?
00:17:04.624 --> 00:17:04.683
I.
00:17:05.659 --> 00:17:06.169
Whew.
00:17:06.409 --> 00:17:07.608
That's a big question too.
00:17:07.608 --> 00:17:23.388
I think just, I'm a Gen Xer and so I think just in general, our generation is really big on breaking cycles, whether that's along our family, history, family matters because we're I believe that we're really an in between generation, right?
00:17:23.388 --> 00:17:23.663
We are.
00:17:24.519 --> 00:17:27.278
Respecting our elders and seeing what they went through.
00:17:27.278 --> 00:17:38.209
And obviously very different upbringing than also keeping our eyes open and being able to see what Gen Z are requiring, what the world they're in right now, what they're requesting, things like that.
00:17:38.239 --> 00:17:39.828
And cycles can mean that way.
00:17:39.828 --> 00:17:45.358
Cycles can also mean disrupting systems that it's not about being.
00:17:46.913 --> 00:17:52.644
A bad guy or to the left, it's about creating a more equitable society, right?
00:17:52.644 --> 00:17:56.903
How can we make things better so that we can all be in our harmony?
00:17:57.213 --> 00:17:58.923
Just not just a select few.
00:18:01.203 --> 00:18:01.473
Yeah.
00:18:03.483 --> 00:18:05.703
I'm really not sure what else to go to.
00:18:05.703 --> 00:18:05.943
Go.
00:18:06.513 --> 00:18:08.314
We've covered a lot of ground already.
00:18:08.314 --> 00:18:08.794
I think.
00:18:10.433 --> 00:18:11.943
I, I if you were Yes, you did.
00:18:12.459 --> 00:18:12.788
Yeah.
00:18:13.628 --> 00:18:18.078
Can I ask you, this is a lot of information and I'd like to know like how you're receiving this.
00:18:18.078 --> 00:18:25.548
'cause this would help me, I think this would help your viewers too, a lot of this work about awareness is within self leadership.
00:18:25.548 --> 00:18:31.614
I think we're in a state right now where a lot of us, me, you, whoever, is really having to look at our own selves, right?
00:18:31.614 --> 00:18:36.084
And what do you know, the good and the bad, and how do we move on past that?
00:18:36.084 --> 00:18:39.743
I'm just curious how it, this resonates with you.
00:18:39.743 --> 00:18:42.854
Is it so like far away and or what do you think about it?
00:18:43.304 --> 00:18:45.614
No I thank you for asking.
00:18:45.663 --> 00:18:50.513
I feel like I, to me this is actually quite I find it to be actually quite obvious.
00:18:50.828 --> 00:18:51.669
Some of these things.
00:18:51.719 --> 00:18:57.598
I think anybody, when we get, I'm also a Gen Xer, when we get to our level and we've had the success we've had, right?
00:18:57.648 --> 00:19:03.648
We start to think about legacy and the next generation and how to empower them and lead'em in.
00:19:03.648 --> 00:19:04.159
And I think we.
00:19:04.538 --> 00:19:05.648
We become more aware of them.
00:19:05.648 --> 00:19:16.598
And I don't know personally like I just joined a new company because I wanted to be around younger people to a, I could learn more from them, but also, help them with my experience.
00:19:16.699 --> 00:19:29.388
I don't think I, I also think I, I guess what I'm where I was going through with this is that I'd like to know from your perspective that the identification of the issues is, I think out there a lot.
00:19:29.388 --> 00:19:31.939
I think we all talk about this all the time, right?
00:19:31.939 --> 00:19:39.683
There's, right now, our, we had a past election a recent election where you can think whatever you want, these topics were front and center.
00:19:40.013 --> 00:19:40.104
Yes.
00:19:40.443 --> 00:19:44.223
And we were all on one side of it or the other, and we can agree or disagree, it doesn't matter.
00:19:44.223 --> 00:19:47.463
They are front and center topics that I think a lot of people are aware of.
00:19:47.463 --> 00:19:53.324
What I look for is more actionable steps that we can all take.
00:19:53.324 --> 00:19:53.384
Yeah.
00:19:53.443 --> 00:19:54.433
To move forward with it.
00:19:54.483 --> 00:19:56.554
And that's where I was going and Okay.
00:19:56.554 --> 00:19:58.054
I just dunno how to ask those questions.
00:19:58.054 --> 00:19:58.384
How?
00:19:58.594 --> 00:19:59.104
Yeah.
00:19:59.523 --> 00:20:02.163
And I'm a person of action if anybody knows me.
00:20:02.163 --> 00:20:03.574
That's, I've demonstrated action.
00:20:03.634 --> 00:20:04.324
I believe in action.
00:20:04.354 --> 00:20:09.513
'cause to your point, Louis, like if we keep on talking about this, we're just running around in circles, right?
00:20:09.594 --> 00:20:13.163
And that's maybe what needs to be ignited more in society is.
00:20:13.598 --> 00:20:35.259
There needs to be more action for more community members because the truth is, for the last hundred, 200, 300 years, there's been a select few that has been doing most of the kind of social impact, social justice, whatever you wanna call it, work When the truth is, we are all responsible for what's happening now, and we need more people support.
00:20:35.469 --> 00:20:43.028
And honestly, we as a male, we need you more than ever because the truth is, at the end of the day, I can do this work until.
00:20:44.068 --> 00:20:52.439
So I'm 85 till I'm boo in the face and you could literally go up to another male and make a change in 20 seconds that I could never do.
00:20:52.558 --> 00:20:55.108
And so I really believe in men right now.
00:20:55.108 --> 00:20:56.128
I believe that.
00:20:56.439 --> 00:21:02.558
And I believe that a lot of men are really not happy with what's happening with society and.
00:21:02.929 --> 00:21:07.398
It really takes a man talking to another man to say listen, this is not right.
00:21:07.679 --> 00:21:09.959
We need to change this, whatever it may be.
00:21:10.078 --> 00:21:11.308
Or we need to be more equitable.
00:21:11.308 --> 00:21:12.999
We need to put it, change the policy.
00:21:12.999 --> 00:21:14.229
We need more young people.
00:21:14.358 --> 00:21:17.689
Being part of these meetings and being decision makers on executive decisions.
00:21:17.689 --> 00:21:31.558
I don't know what it is, everyone's in a different scenario, really figuring out as a male, what do you really think about what's going on right now and what do you personally, what are you personally passionate about that you wanna see change?
00:21:31.558 --> 00:21:33.449
And yes, should there be more funding?
00:21:33.449 --> 00:21:34.719
And I'm just giving examples here.
00:21:34.719 --> 00:21:37.719
Should there be more funding to women owned businesses?
00:21:37.719 --> 00:21:38.199
Should there be.
00:21:38.618 --> 00:21:47.919
More women on the, in the boardroom making decisions and executive decisions Should the boys club be, looked reviewed and dismantled a little bit, right?
00:21:48.189 --> 00:21:50.229
I don't, I can't answer that for you.
00:21:50.229 --> 00:21:56.499
I only, you can come up with what, what is that issue that is bothering you that you don't like right now?
00:21:56.499 --> 00:21:57.548
And then go from there.
00:21:57.669 --> 00:22:04.088
Because the truth is, Louis, you hold the power, you have the tools and ex and experience to know what.
00:22:04.919 --> 00:22:07.858
With you and what doesn't and what change needs to happen.
00:22:07.858 --> 00:22:11.009
But the truth is, everybody needs to step up to the plate right now.
00:22:11.278 --> 00:22:16.784
Because to your point, again, this is not, we're not in a culture right now about Republican against Democrat.
00:22:16.784 --> 00:22:17.834
It's not about that.
00:22:17.834 --> 00:22:20.963
It's really about it's about being moral.
00:22:20.963 --> 00:22:23.153
It's about humanity right now for sure.
00:22:23.243 --> 00:22:27.473
Because everyone is gonna suffer, or if not already in some way.
00:22:28.763 --> 00:22:29.094
Sure.
00:22:30.294 --> 00:22:31.223
Except for select few.
00:22:33.979 --> 00:22:36.588
Everybody defines suffering their own way, right?
00:22:36.769 --> 00:22:37.759
We can't judge it.
00:22:37.969 --> 00:22:48.709
Suffering is totally, I think a lot of people, I to stand up for my gender I think a lot of them feel, a lot of men feel, a loss of control and power in our society.
00:22:48.709 --> 00:22:53.778
And I think there's an overall, a bigger there's a lot of mental health issues that a lot of men need to, yes.
00:22:54.229 --> 00:22:57.368
Deal with right now to move forward and become empowered.
00:22:57.368 --> 00:23:00.608
We have a huge fentanyl and method meth Yes.
00:23:00.659 --> 00:23:03.209
Problem with young men in this country.
00:23:03.209 --> 00:23:11.169
Because of that, they feel like there's a loss of hope in amongst socioeconomic classes that these kind of problems didn't exist before.
00:23:11.388 --> 00:23:11.719
Exactly.
00:23:11.719 --> 00:23:13.249
Yeah, I think there's big issues there.
00:23:13.469 --> 00:23:19.259
I'm also come from a background where I wasn't invited into the boys clubs that you mentioned, so very early on.
00:23:19.528 --> 00:23:19.798
Yeah.
00:23:19.798 --> 00:23:20.788
It'd be discouraging.
00:23:20.788 --> 00:23:21.848
And I, it sucked.
00:23:21.848 --> 00:23:23.888
But then I just realized, all right, screw that club.
00:23:23.888 --> 00:23:24.578
I'll make my own.
00:23:24.578 --> 00:23:25.509
It'll be bigger and better.
00:23:25.808 --> 00:23:27.009
So I just think amazing.
00:23:27.044 --> 00:23:27.769
That's that's a.
00:23:28.479 --> 00:23:32.138
I'm a father of two girls and I encourage them to be the same way.
00:23:32.138 --> 00:23:38.919
When they get down, down on themselves because of something that they're not a part of, it's like, all right, then make your own club and make it bigger.
00:23:39.278 --> 00:23:43.239
Make it be the club that everybody wants to be a part of, and then you get to pick.
00:23:43.403 --> 00:23:43.463
Yeah.
00:23:43.703 --> 00:23:44.903
Who can be a part of it or not.
00:23:44.953 --> 00:23:47.723
But there's no victimhood with us no, it's not about victim hood.
00:23:47.973 --> 00:23:49.203
But it's about moving forward.
00:23:49.213 --> 00:23:49.513
Totally.
00:23:49.513 --> 00:23:52.523
And I think, and I also, I thank you.
00:23:52.554 --> 00:23:55.983
'cause you might have language that I don't necessarily have right.
00:23:55.983 --> 00:24:02.433
As a female to have conversations with decision makers and that are male, as an example.
00:24:02.433 --> 00:24:03.064
I don't know.
00:24:03.064 --> 00:24:07.144
And so the more that we're communicating, having these conversations again.
00:24:07.519 --> 00:24:08.659
Going outside the box.
00:24:08.699 --> 00:24:16.949
And really being open to different kind of people's ideas, but then coming together with those ideas and then deciding what that action will be, that's power.
00:24:17.368 --> 00:24:21.868
Because there is, and this culture, I truly believe what's happening right now is about people.
00:24:22.828 --> 00:24:23.939
People have power.
00:24:23.939 --> 00:24:27.298
We just need to know that we have a power, we need more confident in our power.
00:24:27.929 --> 00:24:28.199
Yeah.
00:24:28.648 --> 00:24:29.098
Totally.
00:24:29.638 --> 00:24:29.818
Yeah.
00:24:29.818 --> 00:24:34.199
I think we all do and we need to recognize it and feel, learn, yeah.
00:24:34.318 --> 00:24:35.788
How to become self-empowered.
00:24:36.328 --> 00:24:36.538
Yes.
00:24:36.538 --> 00:24:41.118
And yeah, a lot of it I think also involves just having self-awareness and I was I think I.
00:24:42.324 --> 00:24:49.934
My, my wife and she's been on the show before and comes on as I guess sometimes she does a, she's very, I, we joke that she's very woo.
00:24:50.804 --> 00:25:04.538
She, so she gets involved with when we talk about breaking cycles, she gets involved with spiritual ancestors, and the cycles there that we have carried down through thousands of years, generations down to where we are now and how that impacts us.
00:25:04.598 --> 00:25:05.199
And it.
00:25:05.888 --> 00:25:14.909
I start I kid with her about it being so woo and out there, over time I've just learned to accept it and respect her because she's right oftentimes and I think, always listen to women.
00:25:15.429 --> 00:25:15.669
Yeah.
00:25:16.048 --> 00:25:16.588
What's that?
00:25:17.308 --> 00:25:18.269
I said always listen to women.
00:25:18.534 --> 00:25:19.013
I'm just kidding.
00:25:19.104 --> 00:25:19.644
No doubt.
00:25:19.644 --> 00:25:21.023
That's all I have in my life yeah.
00:25:21.923 --> 00:25:23.124
Aw, I don't really have anything to listen to.
00:25:23.124 --> 00:25:23.183
Yeah.
00:25:23.949 --> 00:25:25.058
Anybody else to listen to.
00:25:25.058 --> 00:25:35.358
But yeah, no, I think it is, I think when I'm thinking of the terms that you are so involved with, like awaken awareness and breaking cycles and such, this is where where it goes to for me now.
00:25:35.388 --> 00:25:39.878
'cause that's my world with my wife and such and that in our conversations.
00:25:40.209 --> 00:25:40.509
Yeah.
00:25:40.513 --> 00:25:44.378
And that's the beauty and the complexity of humanity is that.
00:25:44.753 --> 00:25:48.114
What might me, awakening awareness for me might be different than you.
00:25:48.384 --> 00:25:49.493
And that's okay.
00:25:49.614 --> 00:25:50.273
That's okay.
00:25:50.304 --> 00:25:53.963
And that's how we come to collective learnings and grow, right?
00:25:54.044 --> 00:25:55.634
And then make decisions from that.
00:25:55.634 --> 00:25:57.733
So that's why we're having this conversation.
00:25:58.034 --> 00:25:59.023
Yeah, totally.
00:25:59.923 --> 00:26:03.973
So I think we're getting around that point where we're going to.
00:26:04.739 --> 00:26:07.259
Go into our world famous Wayfinder four.
00:26:07.888 --> 00:26:08.848
Maya, are you ready?
00:26:09.749 --> 00:26:10.078
Yes.
00:26:11.429 --> 00:26:12.838
You're scared, you hesitate.
00:26:12.838 --> 00:26:14.368
No, I don't know what I don't know what to expect.
00:26:15.419 --> 00:26:16.348
It's really scary.
00:26:16.828 --> 00:26:17.189
Okay.
00:26:17.338 --> 00:26:20.624
Give us a hack, like a life hack that you use.
00:26:22.858 --> 00:26:23.818
Oh, wow.
00:26:24.818 --> 00:26:25.388
Life hack.
00:26:25.449 --> 00:26:26.469
Oh, okay.
00:26:26.473 --> 00:26:35.614
I just learned this from Meghan Markle new Netflix series is that she put takes towels and she puts lavender oil on them and freezes'em.
00:26:35.614 --> 00:26:36.513
And I did that.
00:26:36.723 --> 00:26:46.804
So if you just came in from like a run or exercising or it's a hot day, you just literally take one these towels and it's like a game changer to just calm down and get refreshed.
00:26:47.179 --> 00:26:48.439
Oh, I like that.
00:26:48.499 --> 00:26:48.979
That's cool.
00:26:49.398 --> 00:26:50.209
Yeah, there's a lot.
00:26:50.209 --> 00:26:53.469
We've had a show with I think his name was Matt Ley from Albuquerque.
00:26:53.469 --> 00:26:55.989
He, all he talks about is cold therapy.
00:26:56.088 --> 00:26:57.528
And how you use it to relax and all that.
00:26:57.538 --> 00:26:58.618
That's a great hack.
00:26:58.679 --> 00:26:58.888
Yeah.
00:26:58.888 --> 00:26:59.743
You have anxiety.
00:26:59.743 --> 00:27:00.538
How easy is that?
00:27:00.598 --> 00:27:01.979
Yeah, very easy.
00:27:01.979 --> 00:27:05.939
If you have your like panic attack or anxiety, boom, take my towel.
00:27:06.148 --> 00:27:09.048
And it just it just checks you into a simple state.
00:27:09.078 --> 00:27:11.148
And do you put it on your head, your neck, or where?
00:27:11.148 --> 00:27:11.659
Whatever you want.
00:27:11.659 --> 00:27:12.229
Just hold it.
00:27:12.229 --> 00:27:12.499
Yeah.
00:27:12.739 --> 00:27:14.538
I put it on my head, but do whatever you want.
00:27:14.868 --> 00:27:15.318
Okay.
00:27:16.038 --> 00:27:16.429
I love it.
00:27:16.878 --> 00:27:17.358
Yeah, that's cool.
00:27:17.808 --> 00:27:19.219
How about a favorite?
00:27:19.608 --> 00:27:24.108
This could be a book a show an activity, whatever you want.
00:27:24.588 --> 00:27:26.898
Favorite book is the Four Agreements.
00:27:26.959 --> 00:27:27.828
Oh yeah.
00:27:28.189 --> 00:27:29.028
Miguel Ruiz.
00:27:29.028 --> 00:27:29.088
Yeah.
00:27:29.148 --> 00:27:29.868
Yes.
00:27:30.108 --> 00:27:31.094
Yeah, that's a good one.
00:27:31.548 --> 00:27:34.699
My wife and I actually read, reread that one together recently.
00:27:34.759 --> 00:27:35.298
Yes.
00:27:35.358 --> 00:27:36.679
It's a great reminder.
00:27:37.038 --> 00:27:39.199
Yeah, we, every couple years.
00:27:39.409 --> 00:27:39.858
Yes.
00:27:39.858 --> 00:27:40.509
It very good.
00:27:41.378 --> 00:27:46.019
How about this is right up your alley, a piece of advice for your younger self.
00:27:50.098 --> 00:27:50.604
You matter.
00:27:52.144 --> 00:27:54.054
Ooh, say more.
00:27:55.693 --> 00:27:58.814
You are so incredibly important for this world.
00:27:58.814 --> 00:28:00.973
You are unique, you are special.
00:28:01.183 --> 00:28:08.653
Every kind of dream, every kind of desire or passion that you have, it really does mean something.
00:28:08.953 --> 00:28:11.943
And you need to keep focused on that for your life.
00:28:12.638 --> 00:28:13.144
I love it.
00:28:15.094 --> 00:28:21.294
So finally the last one is, either a limiting belief or a big opportunity?
00:28:23.273 --> 00:28:25.703
Oh, I'm around big opportunities all the time.
00:28:25.923 --> 00:28:36.064
Big opportunities is we hold the power to create great change and there's a lot of really amazing initiatives happening.
00:28:36.403 --> 00:28:47.243
Where not just young people, but adults too are getting innovative and coming together and being around like-minded persons to care for people and create a better world.
00:28:47.243 --> 00:28:48.594
I think that's a huge opportunity.
00:28:48.594 --> 00:28:50.423
There's a rebirth happening right now.
00:28:50.683 --> 00:28:56.753
And so we have to be able to flow and we have to be able to change with these times.
00:28:56.973 --> 00:29:00.634
Or you can choose to also stay status quo and get left behind.
00:29:01.233 --> 00:29:01.294
Yeah.
00:29:02.253 --> 00:29:02.824
I love that.
00:29:03.163 --> 00:29:09.604
I think I'm also Gen X, like you and I feel like the older I've gotten, the younger I feel.
00:29:09.903 --> 00:29:10.023
Yes.
00:29:10.023 --> 00:29:10.534
You know what I mean?
00:29:10.894 --> 00:29:11.673
Do Isn't that funny?
00:29:12.124 --> 00:29:14.794
Like I, I'm in better shape than I've ever been in my life.
00:29:14.854 --> 00:29:17.463
I feel more aware I'm a better person, all of that.
00:29:17.463 --> 00:29:23.784
And so I think there is a lot of opportunity for especially our generation to Absolutely absolutely.
00:29:24.173 --> 00:29:30.894
And I see my kids now, they're in their late teen years now and they are just so full of anxiety and all of that stuff for that.
00:29:30.894 --> 00:29:34.013
And I see so much talent and ability and I'm like, how are you?
00:29:34.338 --> 00:29:37.459
But you can't, you gotta let'em go through their own process, but Understood.
00:29:37.459 --> 00:29:40.068
I have a soon be 21-year-old and Yeah.
00:29:40.348 --> 00:29:41.983
I feel for these young people.
00:29:42.074 --> 00:29:42.284
Yeah.
00:29:42.673 --> 00:29:45.943
The overstimulation the pressure to succeed.
00:29:46.023 --> 00:29:48.743
It's just it's ridiculous, honestly.
00:29:48.923 --> 00:29:49.284
Yeah.
00:29:49.794 --> 00:29:51.653
Totally let a kid be a kid.
00:29:53.453 --> 00:30:05.374
So my on that note too, by the way I can't mention, but I'm going through a process right now that is, they're screening me for everything in my background and all this stuff.
00:30:05.433 --> 00:30:09.574
And in going through this process, I'm reliving like a lot of my childhood.
00:30:09.963 --> 00:30:10.054
Yeah.
00:30:10.054 --> 00:30:12.364
And I'm like, oh my God, I was a knucklehead.
00:30:13.953 --> 00:30:14.463
Like all that.
00:30:14.644 --> 00:30:20.304
And I got away with it because, we grew up in, we were probably the last generation to be able to be kids.
00:30:20.338 --> 00:30:22.019
And once you're 18, it got wiped out.
00:30:22.028 --> 00:30:24.729
And these kids can't be that from a very young age.
00:30:24.729 --> 00:30:27.189
They cannot screw up because it'll haunt them for life.
00:30:27.249 --> 00:30:30.489
And it's like they never really get to be kids anymore.
00:30:30.489 --> 00:30:32.098
And it's sad, it's, yeah.
00:30:32.159 --> 00:30:36.298
And I look, I look at my own self as my parenting, I'm guilty of it.
00:30:36.298 --> 00:30:40.169
I put pressure on my daughter'cause I knew that she had to be strong for this world.
00:30:40.328 --> 00:30:41.048
I didn't have a choice.
00:30:41.048 --> 00:30:48.068
But I think about to your point, man, we were, we rode bikes and had to be home by dinner and there was no cell phone and.
00:30:48.398 --> 00:30:53.328
You went over your friend's house and you did your homework or whatever it was so much simpler.
00:30:53.429 --> 00:31:01.558
And but at the same time, I think the more that we embrace this new world, it'll cause less anxiety and like all we can do is move forward.
00:31:01.739 --> 00:31:03.808
That's all we can do, yeah, totally.
00:31:04.298 --> 00:31:04.538
Bye.
00:31:04.538 --> 00:31:08.689
